Home Electrification Platform for Homeowners and Utilities
Product design for a climate startup helping homeowners electrify their homes, and utilities run the programs that pay for it.
Maiven Energy is a climate tech startup (Public Benefit Corporation, Techstars-backed) that builds a platform connecting three user groups around residential decarbonization and electrification:
- Residents (homeowners & renters): Scan your home through an interactive app, get a personalized energy report, and see which upgrades, rebates, and incentive programs you qualify for. Basically a guided path from "I want to save on energy" to "here's exactly what to do and how much you'll save."
- Utilities / Energy Programs: An all-in-one digital platform to manage and streamline energy efficiency, demand-side management, electrification, and virtual power plant (VPP) programs. Breaks down program silos.
- Contractors / Aggregators: Helps home performance contractors grow electrification and weatherization revenue, expand reach, and reduce labor costs.
Maiven set out to be the connective layer between homeowners deciding what to upgrade and the utilities running the incentive programs that fund a lot of it. I designed the product for both sides, from a consumer dashboard a homeowner uses at their kitchen table to the data-dense tools a utility analyst uses to manage thousands of accounts.
Lowering your home’s carbon footprint can be confusing. A homeowner has to have an understanding of heat pumps, solar, EV chargers, rebates, tax credits, and utility programs, and many give up before they start. Utilities run the incentive programs but struggle to get people enrolled and track what's actually installed. The two sides need each other, but no single tool connected them. The product had to work for a first-time homeowner and a utility program manager at the same time, and make a home virtual energy assessment with dozens of steps feel easy, intuitive, and even fun to complete.
- Designed the homeowner experience: a personalized dashboard, an energy report, and a year-by-year decarbonization roadmap that sequences upgrades to stack available incentives
- Designed the utility-facing platform: program dashboards, an enrollment-requests queue, and account tables built for triaging thousands of records
- Designed a Distributed Energy Resources (DER) map for analysts to see installed equipment and program participation across a service territory
